Curriculum overview
Our Curriculum Aims: A connected Curriculum
At Gurnard Primary School, we aim to deliver a knowledge rich curriculum for all. This is underpinned by our PSHE curriculum and our core values of RESPECT, SUCCESS and BELONGING. We want every pupil to achieve more than they ever thought possible and leave us as positive members of our community with a secure sense of self-worth.
Our five curriculum aims are as follows;
- To continually enable children to become better readers.
- To introduce children to the many wonders of the fascinating world they live in.
- To excite, enthuse and motivate children about the themes and topics they learn.
- To enable children to know and remember more through an inclusive, recurring and connected curriculum; rich in vocabulary.
- To leave children feeling inquisitive; always wanting to know more, with the understanding that knowledge is power and will open doors to a more successful future.
We understand that any purposeful curriculum will be ever evolving, our approach to curriculum design is a continuous cycle; always asking why. Careful consideration is taken to ensure there is real clarity in what is important and why it is important. This is then structured carefully to ensure key knowledge is connected and recurring.
This video documents the work that our staff have done on curriculum development and specialist teaching over the past 3 years. We hope that this will give you a real insight into the teaching and learning that happens every day in our school.
